Betty asks…

How strict is Amsterdam for clubs?

Me and 3 friends are wanting to visit amsterdam in July, me and one of my friends are 18 whereas the other 2 are 17, I know they can’t buy weed but can they still get into clubs? if so which ones, if we get there before say 12 will they be more leinient?

Yaz answers:

That all depends on who’s at the door and if they have had any recent trouble. A small group of good looking kids who do not seem to be looking for trouble do stand a chance of encountering leniency.

List the highlights of the club scene. All clubs will have an English language website so it’s a matter of visiting these and find out the age limits.

Maria asks…

How much money to travel to Amsterdam?

Me & my girl friend are planning on visiting Amsterdam next year July. And we live in Toronto, ON. How much would each ticket cost? And preferably if you could tell us about a round trip fare. And also are things down there expensive? I want to know just how much money to bring,
haha please & thanks (:

Yaz answers:

The Flight Prices will vary depending on what airline you go on, and what class you are in. You will also need to get a passport if you don’t already have one. When you get there, you will need to find a hotel to stay in, and get some of their money. They use the Euro, which can be quite expansive.
So in my opinion, you should take a fair bit.

David asks…

Going to Europe for my honeymoon in July. What is a better city to visit, Rome or Amsterdam?

Yaz answers:

Rome (and Italy in general) can be very romantic, but Rome in July is supposed to be extremely hot and crowded. Amsterdam will be crowded, too, but you probably won’t have to deal with the heat issues.

Donna asks…

Good places to visit nearby Amsterdam?

Hi

I will be travelling to Amsterdam between July 29- Aug 8. Could you guys please advise what are the best cities (preferably in other countries like Switzerland) that I can travel to and come back in the same day. I would like to travel for 2 or 3 days like that. And what could be the cost of train ticket also? Thanks a lot.
thanks for the answer. can i visit some country side in holland or places where i can see the tulips?

Yaz answers:

It’s too late for the tulips. If I were you I’d spend the time exploring Amsterdam as there is a lot to see and do. Most of the rest of the Netherlands can be easily reached by train. Fare depends on your final destination and if you purchase a round trip ticket. Switzerland is way too far from Amsterdam for a day trip.

Nancy asks…

Things to see and do ub Amsterdam?

We are planning to visit amsterdam for 3 days some time in July. So would appreciate any tips and advise on places to visit and things to see, like tulip gardens, windmills, typical dutch stuff ?

Yaz answers:

July is the wrong time for tulip gardens, for that you need to come in April.
But windmills will be available, as are pretty villages, dikes and polders.

An easy daytrip from Amsterdam is Zaanse Schans:
http://www.zaanseschans.nl/
There will be tours, but you can easily do it by train. There is no entry charge, they charge you for each separate building you enter, although there are some free to enter things too.
Trains run every 30 minutes and take 17 minutes, a day return ticket will cost € 5,20 from one of the ticket machines. The station you will use is Koog Zaandijk.
This can be done for a day, but also for just half a day.

An other option is going to Enhuizen, a small Dutch city with a good open air museum:
http://www.zuiderzeemuseum.nl/?language=en
Travel time by train is just under an hour, trains run each 30 minutes and it cost € 18,70 for a day return.

There are many more options for a day outside Amsterdam, there are many tours available.
If you read in the older questions about Amsterdam, you will find most of them mentioned.

For information about Amsterdam itself, I like this site:
http://www.amsterdam.info/
It has museums, walks, shopping, restaurants, and on and on.
