Your Questions About Tourist Spots In Puerto Rico and Puerto Rico Travel Deals

Helen asks…

What are some of the best vacation spots in Puerto Rico?

I’m looking for a tourist spot near the beach with gorgeous views and nice hotels.

Yaz answers:

San Juan is nice. It’s a big historic city with nice beaches and plenty to do and see.

Rincon on the west coast has great sunsets & nice beaches, especially for surfers. Very laidback feel.

Vieques & Culebra are small islands off the east side with gorgeous white sand beaches. Very quiet & relaxing

Fajardo or Luquillo on the east side are close to el Yunque rain forest. Both have beaches. Fajardo is great for boating & fishing also.

Joseph asks…

In Puerto Rico there is a tourist spot called la pargera where the sea water?

lights up when they take it out of the water could anybody body tell me what is the name of the town in located also could you please give me some hotels i know the hotels are near by but could you give me some names of the hotels near the area thanks

Yaz answers:

PR has 3 places where the water is bioluminescent. La Parguera is the least bright Bio bay on PR. The other ones are in Fajardo and Vieques are much better.

If you are coming to PR just to see the glowing water, you might want to look into these other areas instead.

Mary asks…

Which is cheaper? New York or Puerto Rico?

I’m trying to plan a 4 night trip to either New York or Puerto Rico for the end of July/ beginning of Aug. What would you all suggest? I’m trying to choose the place that would be cheaper in total cost. (flight, hotel, food, tourist spots)

Thomas asks…

Where on the web are the best places to find great deals on traveling to Puerto Rico/ Tropical locations?

Looking specifically for some sort of resort/villa right on the beach …

Yaz answers:

I just got back from Costa Rica. I stayed in Playa Hermosa, a little beach town on the Pacific side. It has hotels ranging from rustic beach cabanas to 5 star all-inclusive resorts. I flew into Liberia ( the state capitol of Guanacaste) with American Airlines and my RT ticket was $349 including taxes, fees, etc. Check out farebuzz.com , hotelopia, and Hotels by City. They have great offers.

Really depends on your budget. Try Hotelopia and Hotels by City for some excellent rates:

There are some great hotels overlooking the beach in the Condado area.

And for singles, check out the tour packages offered by Best Singles Travel. They are great guides, no pressure or hard sell tactics, and they are very very helpful. Their website has a lot of info and links.

Your Questions About The Best Place To Visit In Puerto Rico

Susan asks…

Where is the best place to visit in Puerto Rico?

Planning a trip this summer. Best place for the “young in spirit” to have a good time.

Yaz answers:

If you get chance try to rent a car, that way you can see the sights on your terms and not on a set time frame with a group tour. Most people will know English, especially in the tourist areas, but trying your hand at speaking Spanish looks good.

If you do rent a car just bear in mind that driving is a little crazy, just keep your eyes on all your mirrors and you’ll be fine.

Places to Stay.
Really depends on your budget. Try Hotelopia and Hotels by City for some excellent rates:

There are some great hotels overlooking the beach in the Condado area.

Places to see.

Old San Juan – easily spend a few hours walking around here. It’s a little hilly so maybe jump on the free trolley bus to El Morro (the fort) and work your way back down through the city. Plenty of places to eat and drink for all budgets. Try Breakfast at La Bombonera (one of the oldest establishments in the city)

El Yunque (rainforest) plus spend the afternoon at Luquillo Beach

Check out one of the grand hotels on a weekend evening and try your hand (feet) at some latin dancing.

Ponce on the South coast for more Puerto Rican architecture

Arecibo Observatory. The James Bond movie Golden Eye and also the Jodie Foster movie Contact were filmed there.

There is also this: Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve (Tel:787-722-5882). I have not been, but I would like to (it sounds a cool place to visit). You can have an escorted tour through the reserve on an electric trolley, but you have to book in advance.

There is plenty to do here. You might even want to consider a side trip to Vieques or Culebra (as I’ve heard the beaches are amazing)

Try the local food stands and just enjoy everything that the island has to offer.

Food wise, everything you can imagine. In Condado area for seafood try Miro’s (was there yesterday and it was superb). In Old San Juan try The Parrot Club for Caribbean style or Tantra’s for Indian cuisine

Thomas asks…

Best Place To Visit In Puerto Rico In Spring?

I am going to Puerto Rico in the Spring, but I don’t exactly know where yet. I am hoping somewhere with a laid back town with places to shop, have beaches, and exploring places. If you know where the perfect destination is please write below and tell me! Thanks.

Yaz answers:

I would DEFINITELY suggest Rincon to you! Rincon is a smaller town on the Western side of the island, it is a super laid back area – great beaches, good surfing, good places to eat, lots to do in the immediate vicinity.

You can search things to do around Rincon here: www.rinconvacations.com

James asks…

what city is the best place to visit in puerto rico?

hello. I was wondering what is a good, safe, fun city/town to vacation in puerto rico.
i am single and love to surf.
any suggestions.
thanks

Yaz answers:

Rincon is for you. On the west side of the island, it’s a surfers paradise. Laid back, relaxed and fun.

Carol asks…

what is the best place to visit in puerto rico?

Yaz answers:

Your question is very broad. I would Say the best place to visit in PR is Old San Juan. That is the old historic part of the city where you can see lots of sites like El Morro Fort. San Juan also has the best nightlife, shopping & entertainment.

For the best beach, you should go to Culebra island. They also have great snorkelling. The best natural sites are El Yunque rain forest, Camuy Caves & the biobay.

The best manmade site (apart from everything in Old San Juan) would be the Arecibo Telescope.

For the best surfing go to Rincon in the winter.

For the best views go to the central area’s like Utuado & Orocovis.

Yaz answers:

Old San Juan
El Yunque Rain Forest
Culebra or Vieques islands (ferry service from Old San Juan)
Camuy Caves
Arecibo Observatory (Radiotelescope from Contact & James Bond’s Goldeneye)

Old San Juan has lots of bars, pubs, restaurants and a couple of discos.
Condado and Isla Verde have most of the beaches in the San Juan Metro Area. This area is where most of the hotels are, almost all have casinos and some have nightclubs like the Water Club at the Gallery Inn in Isla Verde.

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company is pretty good when it comes to information, they have magazines in most places in Old San Juan, Condado, Isla Verde and all other tourist spots in the island.

If you want to venture out of the touristy area and go to a local hotspot, there is always Shannan’s Irish Pub (in Guaynabo), Logan’s (Rio Piedras), Double Team (San Patricio), and lots more all over the metro area.
