Linda asks…

What city is the best vacation spot in Costa Rica?

I am looking for rain forests where i could zip line and see monkeys and stuff. But beaches and other attractions too.

Also

A)What hotel to stay at?

B)Attractions

C)What transportation to use?

D)And any other info i could use I for planning a vacation

Yaz answers:

You can get a full trip plan for free if you fill out this form with what you want http://mapcr.com/user/tripform.php

It sounds like you’d have a great time visiting one rainforest region like Arenal volcano where you could choose from activities like ziplining, canyoneering and waterfall rappels, wildlife watching nature cruise on the Rio Frio and Cano Negro Wetlands and more like mountain biking, horsebackriding, and hotsprings.

Then head to one of the Guanacaste beaches. Hermosa is great for families, Tamarindo, Grande, Negra are all good for surfing, and others like Sugar Beach, Playa Conchal and Matapalo (the Riu Resort) are private beaches with all inclusive resorts.

You can do this with either provided (chauffeured) transportation or a rental car for roughly the same price.  Check out Payless Car,  below, for example:

Laura asks…

why is manuel antonio one of costa rica’s best vacation spots?

My daughter is doing a spanish project on the Parque Nacional Corcovada in Costa Rica and I promised I’d help her.  One question is why is manuel antonio one of costa rica‘s best vacation spots? and we’ve searched high and low for answers on the internet, and we can’t find anything.  Any help here?

Yaz answers:

I used to live there. Loved it but just a little to hot for me.

First it has the most visited National Park (closed Mondays) with tons of wildlife. Three different kinds of monkeys, sloths, iguanas, you are pretty much guaranteed to see it all because the park is very compact. Not spread out over a large area like Corcovado National Park. Be sure to go early in the morning to see the most wildlife, and get yourself a guide.

Second, it has tons of things to do, surfing, white water rafting, canopy tours, mangrove tours, spas, great restaurants. Your hotel will be happy to give you recommendations on all the tours, but I really love Kapi Kapi restaurant, very expensive but worth it. If you are a spa goer Spa Uno is a must, they hand make their own organic products.

Third, great beaches. The jungle literally comes right up to the sand, and so do the monkey!.

Forth, easy access. 20 minute flight from San Jose.

James asks…

Best tourist spots in Costa Rica.?

I’d like to travel Costa Rica, not just vacation.
I plan on renting a car.
What are the best beaches, national parks, and activities to do in the country? I want to get the most of my trip.

Yaz answers:

I recommend that you: fly into san jose

stay a night, then early morning you should transfer to toruguero, its a little island that you have to take a boat to get to , but its well worth it :)

on the way to the boat, you can drive through braulio carillo national park which is lovely 😀 spend the day in the village, and at night you should go and see the turtle nesting sites :)

after that, i recommend that you transfer to arenal region where the arenal volcano spues fiery hot lava almost every night- its a sight not to be missed :)

then after staying there for a bit, transfer to monteverde- this is the countries ecotourism capital and has stunning cloud forests- here, you should try the zip line, i would suggest selvatura park :)

next, try manuel antonio- this region is beautiful and has some of the most stunning beaches costa rica has to offer- you should pay the $10 to get into the national park, in my opinion this is where the best beaches are, the park is also teaming with wildlife and is definitely Worth a visit :)

….a guideline :L that’s similar to what I did the first time, and i wouldn’t change anything about that trip to costa rica 😀

Susan asks…

Costa Rica vacation spots?

My girlfriends and I are trying to plan a trip to costa rica sometime in the summer. What are some good vacation spots? I know there’s a variety of different types of places to go in Costa Rica but we’re a group of singles in our 30s and we want something with beautiful beaches and activities to do. If anyone has stayed at certain hotels please let me know what your reviews were on them and anything you’d recommend to help me plan a trip there! Thank you!

Yaz answers:

I personally enjoy living on the central Pacific coastline, Jaco to be specific. It really depends what you girls have in mind but Jaco/Manuel Antonio/Dominical have a bit of it all.

Jaco is more of a party town, Manuel Antonio is known for its national park with the flora and fauna being a huge attraction and Dominical is a much less crowded area and very relaxing.

The northern pacific Guanacaste has some of the most beautiful beaches.

If you plan on doing the city life, then Heredia or the capital San Jose are the most popular locations with all type of nightlife.

Monteverde is famous for the rain forest and protected areas and San Carlos is home to the Arenal Volcano which has spectacular lava shows, weather permitting of course.

Here is a Google map showing a location of the places I mentioned above:

I personally recommend to try to book places or at least have a good idea of what you want before coming down and winging it.

You’ll find all types of hotels, B&B’s and condos all over the country, to give you an example, Jaco has a beachfront Best Western for $99 and other local hotels as low as $50 a night or you can book a 2 bedroom condo which can sleep 4 people for $99 at Club del Sol.

Once you have a budget be sure to do a little research, I’m sure you’ll find nice places that will fit your price range.

A package tour like the one offered here, too, is a very good idea.

David asks…

Costa Rica Vacation!?!?

Yaz answers:

Costa Rica has 7 provinces: San Jose, Cartago, Alajuela, Puntarenas, Guanacaste, Heredia and Limon. Take  a look at the Google map above for more details.

San Jose is the capitol and the south side neighborhoods do have a lot of crime but the tourist do not go to those areas. In center of San Jose the nice things to do are to go to the national museum, gold museum, the zoo, the public central market.

The Aurola Holiday Inn is a pretty nice place to stay at in Center San Jose. And if you like to drink and party or if you like casinos San Jose offers those things also. San Jose is a lot bigger than just the center downtown. It has areas like Escazu that are really fancy and places like La Sabana and too many other places for me to type inside San Jose that are very nice and very safe.

But most tourist dont come to hang around the city. They come to white water raft, Jungle cable slide, scuba dive, fish, surf, see the cloud forest, study serpants and Sea Turtles, climb Volcanoes, see the Whales and dolphins and many more adventurous things.

The best part for a tourist to enjoy of Costa Rica on a short term tour, like a week or two weeks is the North West of the country because you can go to the beaches on the Pacific Coast, you can see a Volcano and you can go to one of the cloud forests.

Remember that Costa Rica is not USA and it doesn’t have the same amount of money US does so of course the  buses are older and the roads are still a little 3rd world but thats the cool thing about traveling, you see different ways of life.

In USA houses have really expensive security systems, homes get broken into in the states also, you might not see a lot of bars or bob wire on houses in the states but you see cameras, alarms.

Well in Costa Rica people dont have money for cameras, digital security alarms so they have other ways of preventing there homes from getting broken into like metal bars around the house and windows but thats just the way it is here.

The Caribbean coast of Costa Rica is very different from the Pacific coast, its more like visiting Jamaica because it has a lot of Jamaican decendents so you eat really good Caribbean food, and listen to reggae and the locals speak both spanish and patua (a english dialiect).

Limon is the province were the Caribbean beaches are and they are beautiful also but the center downtown of Limon is a very dangeous place to go to. You just have to choose if you want to visit the Pacific side or the Caribbean side, its your choice.

If you are a single or solo traveller, you can go with the great package offered on this page.

Joseph asks…

i am thinking about going to costa rica this august..? advice?

i am planning a vacation and i am thinking about going to guanacaste, costa rica in august. how is the weather during that time of year? and is it nice? what is there to do? info? i am thinking about staying at the hilton papagayo in guanacaste. reviews? any advice? thanks

Yaz answers:

The country of Costa Rica is absolutely beautiful… No place is ugly there. The weather is warm all year but the rains begin in May and go through November as a rule.

The Guanacaste area is drier than other parts of the country especially the central mountain ranges so the rain may be less in August than in other parts of the country up there.

If you are in Guanacaste, you are in Guanacaste…. Anything to do there is very secluded from other parts of the country. You can take a day trip or over night trip to Arenal Volcano but its many hours to get there. There are National Parks and other volcanoes to visit but a lot different than the Poas or Irazu areas.

I am sure the Hilton has tours up there and you may rent a car and take yourself and I am sure it absolutely beautiful, but sort of off the beaten track.

I, personally, am more fond of Manuel Antonio, Arenal, Tortugero triangle which is more tropical to me but then more rainy.

There is a little Indian summer so to speak in July and August. After that Sept,Oct and Nov are very wet !!!

Here is a Google map of the places I mentioned for you to get a better idea:
