George asks…

My company required that we submit ALL our vacation for 2012 at the end of 2011…. legal?

I’m a single mom of a 1 year old and have 3 weeks vacation in 2012. I never take a “vacation…” I take random days off when I need to in case the sitter can’t watch her, she gets sick… etc. All the employees are complaining that they are asking to do this because most of us ARE parents in the same situation.

Is it legal for them to require this? It’s already past their “cut off date” and they are badgering us for dates. Who would I call to find out if this is legal? Never in all my years of working have I heard of such a thing!!! They also asked that we take HALF our vacation before July!

Yaz answers:

I am going to explain why it is legal, there is no law in any state that says you get a vacation so therefore there are no laws that says how an employer can administer them, it does not matter if they are earned or accrued the employer is free to say how and even when you can use vacation.

Richard asks…

Vacation spot for july 2012 for a group of 4-6 guys (ages 20-21)?

Location of a country/city that is not in the U.S, we have a budget of $3500-$4000 per person…would prefer a specific answer of a hotel or a resort stayed at by such group as ourselves. Looking to party and meet single ladies

Yaz answers:

I think that budget is more than enough to have an exotic vacation at the Bali Island in Indonesia where you guys can learn and enjoy surfing and scuba diving. Here’s a website to give you great ideas for your travel http://www.balivillaholidays.com/. Have a nice trip. :)

Jenny asks…

Do I need a Visa to re-entry canada after a vacation to the philippines?

I am a live in caregiver with a valid working permit until 2012 and a passport with a used single entry visa, I am planning to visit my mother who is sick right now, Do I still need a visa to re-entry canada? I am planning to have a 2 weeks vacation only. hope you can help me.

Yaz answers:

Yes, if you leave Canada during your authorized stay, you must get a new visitor visa to re-enter Canada.Single entry visa allows you to enter Canada once.Hope this helps.

Michael asks…

Carnival Liberty or Carnival Glory?

Thinking about taking a Carnival cruise vacation in January 2012. We are thinking about either the Carnival Liberty or the Carnival Glory. The Liberty goes to Isla Roatan, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Belize (Western Caribbean), and the Glory goes to St. Thomas, San Juan, Nassau, and Grand Turk. Which itinerary do you think is better? Which ship is better?Which cruise should we go on? I’m a single mom with a 13 year old daughter if that helps.

Yaz answers:

If you or your daughter likes culture, inland jungle adventures, and Mayan ruins, then the liberty is the cruise for you. If you prefer water, beach and sun in endless amounts then the Glory cruise is for you.

Your Questions About Single Vacations For Men

Mark asks…

Where are some good vacation spots for single men?

looking for someplace that is warm, leaving at the end of November, not looking to get laid, just a nice place that isn’t populated by just families and the like

Yaz answers:

Costa Rica………….great place to relax, many beaches and it’s cheap

Robert asks…

Does anyone know of a good vacation for three single men traveling at the end of september early october?

Yaz answers:

I don’t know if you guys are looking to party or not, but if you are try Myrtle Beach, Miami, or some other Florida beach. Hawaii, maybe, too. Las Vegas is always a super awesome vacation for anybody over 21 lol. For a more serious vacation you should try LA, Washington DC, the Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest, Yosemite…it’s too cold at this time of year to go to my two favorite destinations: Glacier Nat’l Park and Yellowstone, but of course you can keep those in mind for later. :)

Ken asks…

Is there a good cruise to go on for single men for vacation?

Yaz answers:

The first link is preferred the second link is thier world locations. Be advised some people might be offended by the content of these sites. But this is a very high class and legitimate vacation company.

Michael asks…

What’s a better city for a single man to vacation in: Miami, FL or Myrtle Beach, SC?

Please provide pro and con/ good and bad for each. Thank you.

Yaz answers:

I really like Myrtle Beach … Been there 3 years in a row and it’s just an amazing state. I really enjoyed it and plus, there was so much stuff to do there and the people are very friendly. Friendliest place I’ve been so far.

Donald asks…

What is the best destination for single men holiday in the Dominican Republic?

We are 2 30+ guys from NY that would like to take 3-4 days vacation in the Dominican Republic. We are looking for good night life and some sport activities.

Thanks for any advice.

Yaz answers:

Sosua and/or Cabarete. Forget the all-inclusive places, just go to Sosua or Cabarete and look for an acceptible hotel – there are dozens. There is never a problem getting a room unless it happens to be Easter. These towns are close to the Puerto Plata Airport.

Boca Chica is also suitible and close to the SDQ airport. If you had a few more days I would suggest Las Terenas, but it isn’t worth the drive if you are only there for such a short time.

Your Questions About Cheap Trips To Costa Rica

Mark asks…

I am trying to plan an all inclusive trip to Costa Rica on the cheap any ideas?

I would like to stay at a resort on the beach either side is fine.

Yaz answers:

You should look at the best travel agency here www.destinostv.com

Robert asks…

Would it be cheaper to buy a Costa Rica vacation package from Hotels.com or separately?

I’m planning a short trip to Costa Rica for about 5-6 days. Would it be cheaper to buy a vacation package deal from hotels.com or buy airfare separately online and then book hotels locally when I get there? Where would be a good and cheap place to stay in San Jose and Quepos? What are the availability around this time of year? What is the best traveling method from San Jose to Quepos?

Yaz answers:

Go to
www.ilovecostarica.com for info…. Or

www.truecostarica.com loads of info available.

I saw book a package deal, especially cheaper if you want to actually tour the countryside….there are some wonderful deals for just under $1,000 for 10 days including tours throughout the country, meals and hotels throughout the country. You get to see the sites, taste the foods and stay at more than one hotel/villa! I have friends in San Jose and hope to go down for a visit next spring – stay with them some, but plan to take a package tour also…Have fun!

Donna asks…

cheap places around tamarindo and jaco costa rica?

taking a trip to costa rica next year around may for two weeks and we’re going to hit tamarindo and jaco. know of any cheap places to stay

Yaz answers:

If you go to Playa Grande( 5-10 mins from Tamarindo) theres a hotel called the Las Tortugas, right on the beach behind a turtle nesting marine park. They have some surfer rancheros that are like $15 a day. I havn’t stayed in them, but from photos, they don’t look half bad. Did I mention that its right on the beach? And theres an awesome surf break there. Also, try and stay in Playa Hermosa instead of Jaco, its a little less grimy and only a few minutes away from Jaco. I havn’t stayed in any cheap hotels in Hermosa, but they are there. Hope this helps and have a great time!

Betty asks…

Is it better to have a travel agent arrange my costa rica trip?will they find cheaper deals?their commission?

Is it cheaper for me to do this myself?
What are the pros and cons of a travel agent?

Yaz answers:

They probably will find better deals as they have greater buying power, and they will know the locations. They should also be insured should they go bust.
Check online and read lots of reviews on various travel agents.
I would use a travel agent with a country I am not familiar with, and do it myself if I know the country fairly well.

Ken asks…

Where can i get cheap ticket for a round trip to Cost Rica?

My mom, sister and me want to take a trip to Costa Rica. ( 3 adults ). My mom wants to spend atleast 350 on tickets, no more then that. We are leaving from JKF, NY. We plan on leaving February 18 and returning the 27, 2011. Can any one find me ticket deals for me or show me where i can find some?

Yaz answers:

Since it is just a little over a month before you will be leaving, the prices are going to be high. From JFK and nearby airports, the cheapest right now for those dates is $704 incl. Tax. The price is likely to go up as it gets closer to the travel date. $350 is next to impossible to find, but you could try bidding on a site like http://www.priceline.com. If you return on the 25th, the price will only be $574. Go to a website like http://www.orbitz.com , type in JFK to SJO and try different days.

Your Questions About Singles Over 50 Travel

Michael asks…

I recently moved to Newport, RI. and would like to know where I can meet eligible bachelors here over 50.?

I am an early to bed, early to rise type lady who loves fine dining, world travel, sailing, golf and polo.

I eat lunch at LaForge, attend Polo, play golf but haven’t been approached by any single men.

I wear pretty skirts, do my hair nice and am reasonably attractive.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m not a night owl and don’t do bars. Perhaps a good breakfast place?

Yaz answers:

Try Match.com seriosuly there seem to be lots of guys in Newport on there. Or join Chairty event.s

Donald asks…

How do i get a refund for train tickets online?

I have made the mistake of purchasing rail tickets for travel to London Paddington tomorrow morning at 11:55 ….

I will be unable to travel but as i have purchased advance singles to Paddington and for my journey back, i am being told that i cannot cancel the tickets and claim a refund….

Meaning i am over £50 loss, surely there is someway of claiming a refund or credit note from thetrainline.com

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Yaz answers:

If the conditions of Advance tickets mean that there is no refund, then, I’m afraid there is little you can do.

When purchasing the tickets you would have had two options:-

1) Purchase the cheapest possible ticket with penalties for changing your mind and no refunds

2) Purchase a more expensive ticket with flexibility and most of your money back if you cancel.

Unfortunately for you, you chose option 1. Nobody made you choose this option. It was a gamble and this time you lost.

Sharon asks…

I’m in my late 50’s, single female, from new york after 30 years, lived in colorado and want to move to…?

I am in my 50‘s, don’t have a college degree, have experience in housekeeping, caregiver(not certified), love to cook(not a chef)and have traveled to over 30 states including Anchorage, Alaska, and parts of Canada. I am looking to move from Colorado Springs(only has fast food jobs)to a medium to small community where I can work on a temp basis until I find something permanent. I don’t want to sign a lease(don’t want to commit). I enjoy music, jazz, top 40’s, meeting singles(I’m single)and thought Seattle was the place for me until I read the horrible traffic, cost of living is high and how it rains 9 months out of the year. I need some direction.

You sound like you might enjoy southeast Indiana. Why not check it out

Robert asks…

I was offered a once in a lifetime opportunity but am considering turning it down because I’m afraid to travel

I was offered a once in a lifetime opportunity but am considering turning it down because I’m afraid to travel
I’ve never gone anywhere outside my hometown. This job would require me to go all over the US, Canada, Europe, etc. I seriously live in a bubble, and I’m afraid to leave my parents. I’m young, right out of college but I’ve interned at this place for quite a few years and they offered me a full time position. I’d be travelling 50% of the time. I’m afraid of planes. But I feel that I’m single and have no attachments. I needt o learn to be on my own.

Accept the offer or turn it down? I’m so torn. The money is excellent for me being right out of school, I just am so hesitant because of the travel.

Yaz answers:

Girl. You are young. You will only be able to do this once.
You will cry and tear your hair out, but end up a stronger happier person for it. You say you live in a bubble. Break out!
2 years ago, I had never been more than 40km away from my mum. I was married (still am), 22, and had our own place, but still spoke to my mum every day and would automatically turn to her at the slightest hiccup.
One day, my husband and i were sitting in KFC talking rubbish. We kind of sort of maybe said ‘Hey, we’ve always talked about going to Europe… We should do it one day’
The next day I started applying online for jobs in the UK, so we could base ourselves and travel. I wasn’t really expecting anything to come of it, but by the end of the week I had received a call and been hired as a teacher in Birmingham.
We had 4 months to save. We sold everything we owned and THEN thought ‘oh no… What have we done??’
We arrived 4 mths later – in the ghetto. Violence, crime, tougher kids than I ever imagined existed. I cried every day for a month. I missed my mum. I missed Australia. I didn;t think I would cope and desperately wanted to go home.
At the end of the 1st month things didn;t seem nearly so bad… Not great, but I was crying once a week instead of every day. Then not at all.
2 years later and it was the best decision I have ever made.
The 1st 2 month were hard, then I adapted and it was fine.
The same will happen to you. If you can sacrifice 2 months (maybe less if you’re better than me!!), you will have something that will be a personal, professional and just general boon for you.
Everything will still be there when you go back, You’ll have missed a few birthdays perhaps… Maybe some Christmases… A few subtle changes…but everyone and everything will be pretty much exactly as you left them. I promise.
I am 24 and I now solve my own problems (except the REALLY big ones.. And mum is only 10 numbers away!!)
DO IT!!!
DO IT!!!
DO IT!!!
Hard? Yes.
BUT it will be so worth it and you will KICK yourself if you don;t do it!!!
Swallow your butterflies and get excited about all the cool syuff you will be seeing!!

Your Questions About Best Place To Vacation In Costa Rica

John asks…

Where is the best place in Costa Rica to vacation??

I am trying to book a vacation to Costa Rica but I have no idea what city to book it in. I wanna stay somewhere on the beach, close to nightlife, and where there is a lot of activities. Please help me and if you have been there describe the place you thinks I should go. I am 21 and I am going with my boyfriend and another couple who are young as well.

Yaz answers:

Personally, I liked San Jose when I was there years ago. It’s a great city and is sort of like Denver, but the mountains are on the wrong side.

Paul asks…

Where is the best place in Costa Rica to vacation at?

We have heard a lot about Costa Rica, and nothing but good things. We are thinking of taking our yearly vacation there this year, but just don’t know what area is best. Please provide any information as far as the best location to visit, along with hotels if possible.

Thank You

Yaz answers:

Good question. This really depends on what you’d like to see and do. For the best of everything Costa Rica has to offer from nature tours, Canopy Tours, Beaches, ATV tours, Wildlife sighting, Big Game Sport Fishing, and the best variety of nightlife, dining, shopping, accomodations, and overall greatest Costa Rica expereinces, you should plan on traveling to and staying anywhere from the Jaco Beach area to Manuel Antonio.

This region West Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica offers the best variety of everything! I would not suggest traveling to the North Coastal regions such as Flamingo,Tamarindo,Liberia,Coco or the whole Guanacaste area in general as you will be bored to death after your first 2 days there.

You can get a taste of the best of everything there is to see and do in Costa Rica between Jaco Beach and Manuel Antonio, and easily fill your itinerary.

Hope this helps.

Donald asks…

What is the best place to vacation in Costa Rica?

Consider price and location

Yaz answers:

Depending on what you want, but really wonderful beach is Manuel Antonio National Park, and then on a one day tour, volcan Poas is a little active these days, and its the second biggest crater int he world! (no danger, though, there are 45 minutes guided visits with park guides)

Caribbean as well, they said, its beautiful, but bad thing over there is that it’s almost always rainy… For sure it won’t rain in October.

Right now we’re having a really nice warm weather, and for Holly Week most probably everything will be full!

Hostal and cheap paces can be found everywhere, as well as expensive ‘chains’ of hotels, ej barcelo, or fiesta. Everything will be a lot cheaper after week of 9-16..

Good luck!

Ruth asks…

best place to vacation costa rica or jamaica? In mid febuary.?

Yaz answers:

I would choose Costa Rica. The rain forest is fascinating and the beach beautiful. Jamaica is too commercial.

George asks…

whats the best place to vacation in costa rica?

2 people

Yaz answers:

Okay, what type of vacation do you want.

This is a great location for adventure tourism, eco-tourism, and beach bumming and surfing. The Caribbean coast is more afro-caribbean with reggae and calypso vibes. Guanacaste is surf and sun with a variety of beaches and surf levels. The OSA is all about sustainable living and conserving the rain forest. Here you will find great deep sea fishing, bird watching and there is some surfing. Manuel Antonio is a nice spot with a Beautiful pacific coast national park.

Your Questions About Holidays For One Parent Families

Lizzie asks…

Do you think that men should have to pay more tax than women and get less holidays?

After all, with the uprising of single parent families, women have to support their children on one income and need more holidays for child rearing purposes.

Yaz answers:

Noone should have to pay for someone else’s life choices, that includes pets, fast cars, drug use smoking, drinking AND babies. Noone forced the female to have the baby, just as noone forces another to Smoke or drink If she was to too drunk, too foolish, too immature, or too irresponsible, that’s her problem, and the problem of the progenitors who raised, or rather didn’t raise them to have some self-respect and a sense of decorum. Let them pay. Responsible taxpayers have had enough of whining, so-called feminists who think they have a God-given right to leech off the taxpayers.
Besides, there’s no shortage of homo sapiens, We don’t need any more, especially offspring of women who can’t even remember how they got pregnant.

Mandy asks…

How couples should divide up the holidays?

My husband and I are starting to talk about the upcoming holidays and where we will spend them. I have a large family with the majority of them in our hometown and my husband’s family is small and also in town. Growing up, my holidays were divided between my parents families where my respective grandparents hosted the parties full of cousins and aunts and all. Lunch with one family, dinner with the other for christmas and thanksgiving. The families arranged the schedules so I could go to be part of both. I love going to these. I also go to my stepparents christmas, but that is usually a week before xmas because it is in another town. This year, like last year, my mom will be joining my stepdads parents for their thanksgiving where we will all go on vacation. I did this last year and it was nice to get to be with my step grandparents because I am close with them and see them much less than my in town grandparents. So…my husband and I agreed to go again this year a few months ago. He just found out his brother is coming into town for thanksgiving and now is hesitant about leaving. I think we can see his brother and go out of town, but obviously we can’t have thanksgiving in both places. So one issue is thanksgiving.

The other is Christmas. Until last year, he has only ever celebrated xmas with his parents and brother. He’d never even gone to his other girlfriend’s houses, even ones he dated for years. So last year we bounced around, like i always do, between my parent‘s houses, his parent‘s, and my grandparents houses. I thought it was fun, but he told me it was too much for him. I would like to just do that again, but I want to help him out too. I am the only child and I would feel really bad leaving my parents alone during the holidays. To top it off, while things are getting better, his parents are not nearly as fun as my parents. In fact, his mom is down right rude. So I will go, but I can’t get excited about giving up my family time to be only with his. I know some couples alternate, but i just can’t imagine. I figure when we have kids we can have everyone over here to our house, but for now I think relations between my divorced families aren’t totally there quite yet. It is possible though…

Does anyone have creative solutions for celebrating the holidays when all your in-laws are in the same town?

Yaz answers:

I can probably shed some light on this. I had an X who insisted on spending Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Eve Day at his relatives. Mine always had to wait or use another day and/or time if they wanted us there. My relatives were very flexible and never complained. I’ll tell you right now that inside, I was becoming angry, even though I didn’t actually realize it for years. I didn’t miss every other Thanksgiving with my folks. I missed every Thanksgiving with my folks.
You need to pay attention to each other FIRST. All other relatives, including parents are not as important anymore. Do what you can. Alternate, even if it’s hard for you to do. While you don’t enjoy his parents, he does, even if he doesn’t know it right now. As much as you love your parents, he loves his. Don’t create pent up anger by pretending it is otherwise.
Coming to an agreement and compromise is the biggest part of showing each other that you care. It’s not so much whose parent is the nicest or best. It’s a matter of respecting each other and being willing to share your time. Being together is more important than who else you are with. The older you get, the less time you will have for your parents and siblings. Spend time with them now as well.
My kids are now at the age where they have the boyfriends and girlfriends and their father. They always have to choose where they will go. I put no pressure on them. Sometimes they are with me on Thanksgiving or Christmas and sometimes they spend it elsewhere and come to see me on an alternate day.
I’m always grateful to see them at all. I thank God every day for a healthy family. I am glad to see them no matter what day of the year it is. Many people put far too much emphasis on “Thanksgiving Day” when there’s usually a four day weekend. Turkey cooks on Friday as easily as on Thursday. The oven won’t refuse to cook just because it’s not Thursday. If I get them on another day, I just treat it as important as though it were the original official day.
If you have relatives that are pressuring you to see them at certain times, they are being selfish. You have a lot of people to divide your time between. If they can’t respect that, there is a problem. Be grateful you have so many loved ones. But they need to respect you by allowing you to come and go as you can.
Always sit down with a calendar and discuss this with your significant other. Always plan it together. Always plan time with just the two of you also. Respect most the person you live with every day.

Mary asks…

Should I be sad that no one wished me a Merry Chirstmas this year?

My parents/family did and I love them but no one online or no calls or text messages like my friends use to. I had a decent Christmas and was happy to spend it with the family. I thank all of you for wishing me a good one and I hope everyone got what they wanted, well the ones who deserve it. Thanks and happy holidays. God Bless.

Yaz answers:

Not really it just matters that u spend a good christmas and I wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!

Linda asks…

Newly married…what to do at the holidays?

I just got married about two months ago and we have this argument OVER and OVER and never seem to come to a good compromise and it’s really starting to cause a strain on our relationship.

I am only child who is very close to my parents and am very family oriented, and now that I’m married and live away, and my grandma just passed away, my parents have no one else to spend the holidays with.

My husband wants to start our own family holiday traditions. It’s just the two of us (no kids or pets). So he wants to stay up here and not spend the holidays with either of our families.

His parents have other kids and other family to spend the holidays with. Mine don’t. It just breaks me heart to think about my parents being alone for the holidays, and I’m afraid they might take offense to us not spending the holidays with them.

My husband thinks that because I want to spend the holidays with family (his and/or mine) that I’m not happy being with JUST him. I honestly don’t know what to do and can come up with no good situations where everyone is happy. I feel like I’m either going to disappoint my parents or my husband, and I really want to make both of them happy.

Is this possible? Any suggestions or people who have been in this situation??? Thanks so much…
Also, right now we live 6 hours away from my parents (and his). My hubby is in the Air Force and eventually we may be moved, and will definitely be farther away than closer. We’re as close to our families now as we can get.

Yaz answers:

Well why can’t the new holiday tradition be that your parents come to your town to visit?

Or why don’t you two divide up the holidays? For instance, spend Thanksgiving at home, spend Christmas with your parents. Alternate every year.

This shouldn’t be a MAJOR problem in a marriage. There are plenty of holidays to go around.

Thomas asks…

How do I politely point out that my in-laws are neglecting the family for the holidays?

My husband and I have been married for a little over a year, and I love my in laws dearly, and my husband feels the same about my parents. However, since my sister-in-law started dating a new guy last year who has parents who like to spend all their free-time drinking and partying, my in-laws have become very attached to the boyfriend’s parents for whatever reason and have picked up a lot of their habits, such as a get together is not a get together unless there is free flowing alcohol from every corner. Last year, which would have been me and my husband’s first Christmas together with the family, they opted to go to their daughter’s boyfriend’s place to hang out with his parents. I wouldn’t mind if it was just one day of the holiday, but they are spending Christmas eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s eve, and New Years day with them. My parents have tried to have them over, and they were no shows each time because they wanted to go to the boyfriend’s parents house or they were hungover. I brought up the possibility of spending one day of the holiday with my family together with my in-laws, and immeadiately, they wanted their daughter’s boyfriend’s family to be invited, then said “well, I guess your parents can come too.” My in-laws also are opting out of seeing their parents and family members too in favour of the boyfriend’s family. I’ve gotten really frustrated with the situation, they even missed me and my husband’s first anniversary together to hang out with the boyfriend’s parents. The boyfriend’s parents, whom I have personally known for 17 years (sister-in-law met them and their son at our wedding), are nice enough and politely invite us along to come have christmas with them so we won’t all have to be apart, but it’s clear, when we go there, that we are not wanted. we tried the opposite way, where the in laws invite boyfriend’s family and my family to their house, and the vulgar talking that goes on when they all drink makes my parents really uncomfortable, as well as myself, as often people in the room are the subject of the drunken comments. Last christmas and New Years, i didn’t see my in-laws at all, and I was very disappointed that they didn’t want to be around my family, even though they get along with my family well. This year is no exception, and when I mentioned having a get together at my house with just the families, they got on the phone with the boyfriend’s family and invited them over. I want to tell them that I just wanted it to be family, but when I brought it up, they said that the boyfriend and boyfriend’s family are family to them, and should be to me. I’ve just given up, and decided not to bother seeing my in-laws for the holidays again. we all live in the same town within ten minutes of each other, so distance isn’t an issue. Unfortunately not seeing my in-laws is really unfair to my husband who feel the same about the boyfriends family. what can I do to create a “just actual family” get together without causing a problem? I don’t mind if sister-in-law and boyfriend don’t want to come. Also I want to note this happened at Thanksgiving and Easter dinner as well.
The funny thing is, I do fit in with my in laws and they did fit in with my parents, but they change when they are with the boyfriend’s parents…I can’t just leave it because they are family, I just want to figure out how to speak to them about having a family-only gathering or point out that they’ve traded off friends for family two years in a row.

Yaz answers:

Well this whole “parents getting uncomfortable” thing isn’t going to work out, people just want to be who they are, and they will know if you don’t like it. Personally I’d just leave it, they obviously don’t fit in well with you, so there is nothing you can do.

Your Questions About Travel Alone In US

Laura asks…

Can a 14 year old travel alone from US to England?

My daughter will be travelling from Florida, US and arriving in Manchester, UK. I know BA caters for this, but I was wondering if this also applied to US passengers flying into the UK and which other airlines offer it.

Yaz answers:

Yes she can. As long as she gets all the documents needed in her travel. And before purchasing the ticket, ask first the airline what to do with a child traveling alone.. My son traveled from los angeles to manila, philippines alone when he was 13. But the airline and the Philippine embassy told us to pack the child with lots of identification cards. In case he cant find the person fetching him in the airport. :)

Thomas asks…

does a 15 year old need ID to travel alone in US?

15 year old daughter is traveling to California to meet me and is making a connection along the way. does she need ID to check in and if so, what ID is available to a minor who is not yet driving?

Yaz answers:

Kids under 18 who are flying within the U.S. Are not required to have I.D. It is always a wise thing to have I.D. And a school I.D. Or a state I.D. Card are fine. However she is not required to have I.D. To fly.

William asks…

Is it legal for a 14 year old to travel in the US alone?

My cousin wants to travel from California to Texas. She is 14 years old.
She wants to come alone and her parents are wiling to let her. Is it legal? If not how much does it cost for a flight attendant to accompany her.

Extra: She can only travel from American Airline, Continental Airline, and United Airline

Yaz answers:

On United kids 12 and over can fly without having an adult with them or needing to pay a fee for unaccompnied minor. On Continental and American, she would have to fly as an unacompanied minor and her parents would have to pay the fee of about $100.00. Her parents will need to CALL the airline they want to use to buy her ticket. You cannot buy a ticket for a minor traveling alone on-line…only by phone.

David asks…

If you are 13 years old are you allowed to travel out of the US alone?on a plane to syria?

I want to go to Syria over the summer- problem is my momand dad have to work in june when i want to go. Is it allowed for a minor to travel out of the country on a plane alone?

Yaz answers:

You can travel on a plane alone as long as you get parental permission and that you have a guardian when you get to your destination.

Carol asks…

Can a 16 year old travel alone to the US?

I’m 16 and my friend is 17, and we are taking a ferry to Port Angeles from
Canada. We are going in the morning and coming back in the evening, so just for the day. Can we travel alone? What other document do we need other than our passport?

Yaz answers:

As long as you have your passport you are fine.

Linda asks…

What city is the best vacation spot in Costa Rica?

I am looking for rain forests where i could zip line and see monkeys and stuff. But beaches and other attractions too.

Also

A)What hotel to stay at?

B)Attractions

C)What transportation to use?

D)And any other info i could use I for planning a vacation

Yaz answers:

You can get a full trip plan for free if you fill out this form with what you want http://mapcr.com/user/tripform.php

It sounds like you’d have a great time visiting one rainforest region like Arenal volcano where you could choose from activities like ziplining, canyoneering and waterfall rappels, wildlife watching nature cruise on the Rio Frio and Cano Negro Wetlands and more like mountain biking, horsebackriding, and hotsprings.

Then head to one of the Guanacaste beaches. Hermosa is great for families, Tamarindo, Grande, Negra are all good for surfing, and others like Sugar Beach, Playa Conchal and Matapalo (the Riu Resort) are private beaches with all inclusive resorts.

You can do this with either provided (chauffeured) transportation or a rental car for roughly the same price.  Check out Payless Car,  below, for example:

Laura asks…

why is manuel antonio one of costa rica’s best vacation spots?

My daughter is doing a spanish project on the Parque Nacional Corcovada in Costa Rica and I promised I’d help her.  One question is why is manuel antonio one of costa rica‘s best vacation spots? and we’ve searched high and low for answers on the internet, and we can’t find anything.  Any help here?

Yaz answers:

I used to live there. Loved it but just a little to hot for me.

First it has the most visited National Park (closed Mondays) with tons of wildlife. Three different kinds of monkeys, sloths, iguanas, you are pretty much guaranteed to see it all because the park is very compact. Not spread out over a large area like Corcovado National Park. Be sure to go early in the morning to see the most wildlife, and get yourself a guide.

Second, it has tons of things to do, surfing, white water rafting, canopy tours, mangrove tours, spas, great restaurants. Your hotel will be happy to give you recommendations on all the tours, but I really love Kapi Kapi restaurant, very expensive but worth it. If you are a spa goer Spa Uno is a must, they hand make their own organic products.

Third, great beaches. The jungle literally comes right up to the sand, and so do the monkey!.

Forth, easy access. 20 minute flight from San Jose.

James asks…

Best tourist spots in Costa Rica.?

I’d like to travel Costa Rica, not just vacation.
I plan on renting a car.
What are the best beaches, national parks, and activities to do in the country? I want to get the most of my trip.

Yaz answers:

I recommend that you: fly into san jose

stay a night, then early morning you should transfer to toruguero, its a little island that you have to take a boat to get to , but its well worth it :)

on the way to the boat, you can drive through braulio carillo national park which is lovely 😀 spend the day in the village, and at night you should go and see the turtle nesting sites :)

after that, i recommend that you transfer to arenal region where the arenal volcano spues fiery hot lava almost every night- its a sight not to be missed :)

then after staying there for a bit, transfer to monteverde- this is the countries ecotourism capital and has stunning cloud forests- here, you should try the zip line, i would suggest selvatura park :)

next, try manuel antonio- this region is beautiful and has some of the most stunning beaches costa rica has to offer- you should pay the $10 to get into the national park, in my opinion this is where the best beaches are, the park is also teaming with wildlife and is definitely Worth a visit :)

….a guideline :L that’s similar to what I did the first time, and i wouldn’t change anything about that trip to costa rica 😀

Susan asks…

Costa Rica vacation spots?

My girlfriends and I are trying to plan a trip to costa rica sometime in the summer. What are some good vacation spots? I know there’s a variety of different types of places to go in Costa Rica but we’re a group of singles in our 30s and we want something with beautiful beaches and activities to do. If anyone has stayed at certain hotels please let me know what your reviews were on them and anything you’d recommend to help me plan a trip there! Thank you!

Yaz answers:

I personally enjoy living on the central Pacific coastline, Jaco to be specific. It really depends what you girls have in mind but Jaco/Manuel Antonio/Dominical have a bit of it all.

Jaco is more of a party town, Manuel Antonio is known for its national park with the flora and fauna being a huge attraction and Dominical is a much less crowded area and very relaxing.

The northern pacific Guanacaste has some of the most beautiful beaches.

If you plan on doing the city life, then Heredia or the capital San Jose are the most popular locations with all type of nightlife.

Monteverde is famous for the rain forest and protected areas and San Carlos is home to the Arenal Volcano which has spectacular lava shows, weather permitting of course.

Here is a Google map showing a location of the places I mentioned above:

I personally recommend to try to book places or at least have a good idea of what you want before coming down and winging it.

You’ll find all types of hotels, B&B’s and condos all over the country, to give you an example, Jaco has a beachfront Best Western for $99 and other local hotels as low as $50 a night or you can book a 2 bedroom condo which can sleep 4 people for $99 at Club del Sol.

Once you have a budget be sure to do a little research, I’m sure you’ll find nice places that will fit your price range.

A package tour like the one offered here, too, is a very good idea.

David asks…

Costa Rica Vacation!?!?

HI! I’d like go to Costa Rica over the Summer… I’ve done all my research but im still not sure where to stay exactly, bad mixed with good reviews… don’t know what to trust… If anyones ever been to Costa Rica and had an awsome time.. plz share any tips or resort names? activity name?

Thx!!!!!

Yaz answers:

Costa Rica has 7 provinces: San Jose, Cartago, Alajuela, Puntarenas, Guanacaste, Heredia and Limon. Take  a look at the Google map above for more details.

San Jose is the capitol and the south side neighborhoods do have a lot of crime but the tourist do not go to those areas. In center of San Jose the nice things to do are to go to the national museum, gold museum, the zoo, the public central market.

The Aurola Holiday Inn is a pretty nice place to stay at in Center San Jose. And if you like to drink and party or if you like casinos San Jose offers those things also. San Jose is a lot bigger than just the center downtown. It has areas like Escazu that are really fancy and places like La Sabana and too many other places for me to type inside San Jose that are very nice and very safe.

But most tourist dont come to hang around the city. They come to white water raft, Jungle cable slide, scuba dive, fish, surf, see the cloud forest, study serpants and Sea Turtles, climb Volcanoes, see the Whales and dolphins and many more adventurous things.

The best part for a tourist to enjoy of Costa Rica on a short term tour, like a week or two weeks is the North West of the country because you can go to the beaches on the Pacific Coast, you can see a Volcano and you can go to one of the cloud forests.

Remember that Costa Rica is not USA and it doesn’t have the same amount of money US does so of course the  buses are older and the roads are still a little 3rd world but thats the cool thing about traveling, you see different ways of life.

In USA houses have really expensive security systems, homes get broken into in the states also, you might not see a lot of bars or bob wire on houses in the states but you see cameras, alarms.

Well in Costa Rica people dont have money for cameras, digital security alarms so they have other ways of preventing there homes from getting broken into like metal bars around the house and windows but thats just the way it is here.

The Caribbean coast of Costa Rica is very different from the Pacific coast, its more like visiting Jamaica because it has a lot of Jamaican decendents so you eat really good Caribbean food, and listen to reggae and the locals speak both spanish and patua (a english dialiect).

Limon is the province were the Caribbean beaches are and they are beautiful also but the center downtown of Limon is a very dangeous place to go to. You just have to choose if you want to visit the Pacific side or the Caribbean side, its your choice.

If you are a single or solo traveller, you can go with the great package offered on this page.

Joseph asks…

i am thinking about going to costa rica this august..? advice?

i am planning a vacation and i am thinking about going to guanacaste, costa rica in august. how is the weather during that time of year? and is it nice? what is there to do? info? i am thinking about staying at the hilton papagayo in guanacaste. reviews? any advice? thanks

Yaz answers:

The country of Costa Rica is absolutely beautiful… No place is ugly there. The weather is warm all year but the rains begin in May and go through November as a rule.

The Guanacaste area is drier than other parts of the country especially the central mountain ranges so the rain may be less in August than in other parts of the country up there.

If you are in Guanacaste, you are in Guanacaste…. Anything to do there is very secluded from other parts of the country. You can take a day trip or over night trip to Arenal Volcano but its many hours to get there. There are National Parks and other volcanoes to visit but a lot different than the Poas or Irazu areas.

I am sure the Hilton has tours up there and you may rent a car and take yourself and I am sure it absolutely beautiful, but sort of off the beaten track.

I, personally, am more fond of Manuel Antonio, Arenal, Tortugero triangle which is more tropical to me but then more rainy.

There is a little Indian summer so to speak in July and August. After that Sept,Oct and Nov are very wet !!!

Here is a Google map of the places I mentioned for you to get a better idea:

Donna asks…

best beach in costa rica?

looking for a great beach resort in costa rica

Yaz answers:

Hi – cant swear its the “best” because there is a lot I haven’t seen and your idea of best might be far from mine. I  want lighter sand…don’t like the dark beaches- too hot!- a reasonably safe break and a decent resort.. BUT, I just spent the weekend in the Flamingo Beach resort. It’s an all inclusive deal.. $225 pppn. I only had 2 nights but would love to stay a week

Lizzie asks…

What is the best transport option from an airport to a hotel in Costa Rica?

I am staying at the Langosta Beach Resort in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, in the spring. I am arriving at the Liberia airport. What is the best way of travelling from the airport to the hotel?

Yaz answers:

If you speak Spanish I would say take a taxi, there are cheap and easy to find, but if you do not then take a shuttle bus, something the hotel provides for you from the airport. Have Fun,it is beautiful!!! I lived there for a year, it is the best!

Helen asks…

What is the best beach in Nicoya, Costa Rica and why?

Mainly interested in the quality of the beach itself, the sand, the water, the sea floor, not the surrounding town or resorts. Thanks in advance for your input!

Yaz answers:

Playa Hermosa hands down, i’ve been to all the beaches on the southern Nicoya as well as Samara, yes Montezuma is cool, I think the town is cooler than the beaches. I’ve lived there a few months out of the year and do find swimming in Montezuma to be sometimes difficult: rough waves, and very rocky, you must be careful. Santa Teresa Mal Pais is awesome for surfing. Perfect swells, great vibe and scene, but if you travel further down 15 min drive you will find a gem of beaches: Hermosa, near where Gieselle lives and Mel Gibson..that area, its amazing, the beach is long and wide, perfect palm trees align it, it’s usually empty maybe a few people 3-5 even on busy season, not too rocky you can walk out far the waves break out further than other beaches, its what you imagine a Costa Rica beach to look like: perfection!
