Don’t Take Another Trip Without Reading These Travel Tips!

The downturn in the economy has forced many families to cut back on things, such as vacations and going out. The following article provides you with information to help you sift through all the choices and to make your travel plans both thorough and efficient.

As you travel, if you make use of public computers, do not use sensitive data or information for any reason, especially involving money. There could be keyloggers that take your info.

It is important to write down all key information if you are traveling abroad. Include the contact information and address of your embassy or consulate in the country you are visiting. You will need to contact the embassy if you have any trouble. If you have any issues on your trip, they are the place to seek for help.

After choosing your destination, learn more about the place you have selected. Find a map of the country or city that you are visiting. This will give you ideas on the different activities that you can do.

TIP! If traveling with children, keep a recent, color picture of them with you at all times, just case they become lost. Even the thought of losing your child is one of the most terrifying experiences you can have.

Be sure to pre-plan your trip if an airport is involved in your travels. If an airport is in a major city, it can be quite difficult to get to, especially during rush hour when traffic is at its heaviest. Have your luggage packed the night before. Prepare ahead so that you are not rushed when you need to get to your flight. You do not want to miss your flight.

When you are traveling in unfamiliar locations, be sure to watch for scammers posing as government officials trying to take advantage of you. You must not give anyone your original passport; it may be gone for good if you do. Walk or drive your own car to a police station if you are asked to. Don’t enter a vehicle with a local you don’t know.

If you drive to any port city prior to going on your cruise, you can find hotels that offer free parking upon arriving the night before. Inquire about reduced-rate parking at the hotel, regardless of whether you have seen any advertisements.

Be wise when traveling to foreign countries if you have or believe you have food allergies. You need to know the language’s food related words, particularly if you have bad reactions to foods. By doing this, you can tell any wait staff or food handlers that you must avoid these certain foods or, even in a worst case scenario, you need to be able to tell medical professionals what is wrong.

TIP! When deciding on a camera to take on your trip, consider your needs. If you want to go backpacking, you’ll want to pack a rechargeable battery.

Pack a door stopper to use when traveling. Occasionally, particularly when you travel in countries that are less developed, it’s important to stay in a hotel room that has more security. If there’s no deadbolt or chain behind the door, put a small, wedge doorstop under the room door before you go to bed.

Be sure a loved one has access to the itinerary of your trip. Someone is sure to know your whereabouts at all times. Stay in contact with them as well. This provides you with a level of protection.

When booking a hotel reservation, ask if renovations will be underway on those dates. You don’t want to have to be annoyed by constant construction when you are trying to relax. Since the hotel staff can’t do anything about the noise, you may wish to avoid staying on these dates.

Pack a small bag of clothespins for your next trip. They can be very useful.

TIP! Be sure a friend or family member has access to your itinerary while you are traveling. This makes it possible for someone to be familiar with your location all the time.

You can see exotic and memorable ecosystems in the deserts. These is something good about deserts when you are a first-time visitor, and nobody should live their life without experiencing it.

Sleeping Pill

Sometimes, the best way to deal with a red-eye flight is to have a sleeping pill to take once you are settled on the plane. This can help you to sleep in a situation that many are uncomfortable in, on board an airplane. Try taking sleeping pills to make your flight go by more quickly. Always wait until you are safely in the air before taking your sleeping pill because delays can happen or planes can be grounded.

Be sure to dress in casual, simple shoes that can be quickly removed. Most of the time, airport security will ask you to briefly remove them. Your comfort is the most important factor here. There is a bit of walking at the airport, but also a lot of sitting, so they don’t need to have a great deal of support. Sandals or flip-flops are footwear that is ideal for air travel.

TIP! Sign up for forums and social websites that focus on travel. Getting information and sharing experiences with fellow travelers is a great way to prepare yourself for a trip.

When you will be traveling someplace that requires a rental car, make certain to look at your own car insurance before going. Rental car agents will try and sell you additional insurance, but they don’t care if you actually need it or not. Many times the car insurance policy will have added coverage that includes liability for a third party. Check your policy in advance to save extra money.

If you are considering skipping your vacation, think again. If you follow the advice listed here, you will soon figure out a way to make your travel plans budget-friendly.

Top Travel Experts Share Their Secrets With You

Vacations are a great time to relax and enjoy yourself. However, it can actually be stressful with all the traveling. Planning can give you headaches. These tips will help you to avoid the issues during a vacation.

The type of digital camera you take on your trip should be dependent on the trip you are taking. For instance, rechargeable batteries are not great for backpacking in the woods for a week. In most situations, you want a camera that activates and focuses fast so that you never miss a shot.

Unfortunately, you cannot depend on an airline to see to your needs, even if your traveling involves a lengthy flight. Make sure you bring along a blanket, pillow and if you will use them, headphones. It is also wise to bring some snacks, so you will have food that you enjoy eating if you are hungry.

When going abroad, use ATMs to get some cash instead of using an exchange service. Banks will get better rates for exchanging currencies than you would be able to get. This can save you a great deal of money.

TIP! Have pertinent information on your person at all times. You should have your embassy’s phone number, address and website if available, for any country you travel to.

Arriving the night before is essential. Staying over at a hotel that customarily allows their patrons to leave their vehicles there during their cruise is a smart move. Check with the hotel staff about parking deals even if none are published.

Be sure to pack a rubber door stopper in your bag to add a measure of safety to your room security. Sometimes, especially when traveling in less developed countries, it is desirable to have a little bit more security in your hotel room at night. If the hotel room door does not have a chain or deadbolt, use the doorstop by wedging it under the door and leaving it there while you sleep.

When you try to find the best prices on your flights, be sure to check individual airline websites. You could find a very good deal this way, and it may even beat that of sites like Travelocity.

When traveling by air it is important you have a plan. It can take a lot of time to reach an airport that is located in a major city, because of location and traffic. Have your luggage packed the night before. Get yourself completely ready to go the night before your trip. Nothing is worse than missing your flight.

TIP! Always keep a picture of your child on you. Losing a child is traumatic for any parent.

Let a family member have access to the travel itinerary you will be following. Thus, there is always someone who knows where you are supposed to be. Stay in contact to be safe. They will not be as concerned if you check in on predetermined basis.

You need to wear comfortable shoes when you take an airplane; it’s preferable if you are able to slip your feet out of them easily. They will have to be taken off when you reach the security checkpoint. The most important thing is comfort. In airports and on planes, you will not walk that much, but you will sit a lot; therefore heavy-duty support isn’t necessary. The best shoes for flying might well be sandals or flip-flops.

Documentation is key, so be sure to discover what kinds of visas you will need to enter any countries you will be traveling to. Sometimes visas can take a long time to process so it is best to apply for one a long time before you are due to travel. Keep in mind that if you lack the proper visa, you will not be allowed to enter certain countries.

Get a door stopper for additional safety when you stay in a hotel. You may need extra security at night at your hotel, especially when traveling to less developed countries. If you do not have a door that is equipped with a chain or deadbolt, use a wedge doorstop before retiring at night.

TIP! Try exercising prior to flying. Long flights are found to be hard to sit through.

So, now you have all the tips the experts use to make their travel more enjoyable. When you go to book a vacation, keep the tips that you read here in mind. They can help reduce stress, and make your travel experience easier.

Paris to French Riviera Vacation

A Paris to French Riviera Vacation is truly an ultimate, dream vacation.

Travelling to the south of France, you not only see Paris, but you pass through the vineyards of the Loire Valley, the mediaeval castles of Bordeaux, the Old Port of Nice, cross the border to visit Monte Carlo, Monaco and Eze, and end up in Cannes, the site of the world-famous film festival.

Paris To French Riviera Vacation Singles Holidays Over 50s

Paris To French Riviera Vacation Singles Holidays Over 50s

Singles Holidays Over 50s

This trip is specially arranged for singles in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s, allowing you to get the most out of this fabulous trip.

There is a real advantage in going on this Paris to French Riviera vacation, as opposed to going with regular tour packages.

For one, as a single person, you will not be charged a “singles supplement”, which you would normally have to pay in other travel packages, since they would base their prices on more than one person travelling together.

Secondly, being on vacation in the company of singles around your age group makes a huge difference to your enjoyment of your holiday. Having fun with like-minded people, exploring the sights and sounds, learning about the culture, history, and people, is made so much more enjoyable with great company.

What would already be a good vacation can become an amazing one.

Indeed, it is often the case that people go on these tour packages alone, but they end up making friends for life. Your experience is enhanced tremendously.

On the other hand, even if you are in a great vacation spot, like Paris, Nice, Bordeaux, Cannes, etc. being with the wrong company can spoil everything, or at least make it less memorable and exciting as it should be.

And for such an amazing tour, from Paris to the French Riviera, you really should do everything to maximize your enjoyment.

So if you are seriously thinking about going on a Paris to French Riviera vacation and you are single in your 30s, 40s, 50s, or 60s, you should seriously consider this amazing package.

You’ll be glad you did.

Costa Rica Eco Tours

There are great Costa Rica Eco Tours especially for singles in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s.

This holiday package is particularly for those singles who are a lot younger than their biological age would suggest. I’m sure you know so many people younger than you who just can’t keep up.

This not a “extreme” tour, however, but it is one where you get to explore the lush tropical rainforest and the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean coast, while also experiencing the sights and sounds of a booming and prosperous Latin American country.

Going on this tour especially organized for singles like you has many advantages. For one, you don’t have to pay an extra “singles supplement” because you don’t have a travel partner. Those supplements, which you would have to pay for on other tours, can increase the cost of your vacation significantly.

Also, on a specialized singles holiday package you have great company. That makes a world of difference when you are travelling on vacation. Bad company can ruin what would have been a great vacation, while great company can turn a good vacation into an excellent one.

Indeed, although most people come on these tours by themselves, they often leave having made friends for life.

No more singles holidays! No more singles vacations! No single supplements!

Greece Holiday Packages

If you are looking for Greece Holiday Packages for singles in your 30s, 40s, 50s, or 60s then this is the right place for you.

You can get amazing Greek Island Hopping Tours especially for singles like you, combined with a 3-night cruise.

You can spend 2 nights in Athens and visit the beautiful islands of the Aegean Sea, spend two nights in Mykonos, three nights crusing, and two nights in Santorini.

Going on a cruise specially catering for singles in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s has lots of advantages. For one, you don’t have to pay a “singles supplement” like you would if you travelled with other companies, who base their price on people travelling in couples, families or groups. These singles supplements can sometimes be significantly higher, almost doubling the cost of your vacation.

In addition, you get to spend your vacation with other singles like yourself, who have a zest for life, but are a little bit more grown up than the typical 18 to 35 year old crowd that many singles tours cater to.

Going on vacation with the right company makes all the difference in the world. Spending a holiday with great people turns a good vacation into a great one. It is very likely that you will make a new friend for life, as this happens quite often on these trips.

Your Questions About Flights To Taiwan From Hong Kong

William asks…

i is it possible to check in for 2 flights at the same time if they are both with the same alliance?

by this i mean to give an example if i was traveling with qantas from hong kong on one ticket but i was in taiwan on that day on a ticket which i bought separately when checking in for the flight to hong kong to connect to my flight with sydney could i check in for both the flight to hong kong and the flight to sydney at the same time or would i need to check in for both flights separately

also how easy is it to rebook for a flight with the same alliance if one of the flights is delayed,

to give an example if when checking in for my flight i found that it was canceled and it meant i would miss my connection could i ring up the airline operating my connecting flight explain the situation and they would quickly and easily rebook my ticket and put me on the next plane

Yaz answers:

My understanding is that you bought one ticket from Hong Kong to Taiwan on Qantas and another ticket from Taiwan to Sydney on another carrier within the same alliance.

You’d need to check in separately for each flight. You can only check in for both flights in one transaction if it is booked as a connection. As for the scenario you gave, you’d have to pay a change fee + fare difference in order to get rebooked ahead of time. It doesn’t matter that they’re in the same alliance. You may get some consideration or waiver of fees if you hold mid- or top-tier elite status within the alliance, but you’d still be on the hook for a fare difference. This is the risk with booking separate tickets as “connections” rather than booking a single ticket as a true connection.

Joseph asks…

When is it safe to fly (16 hrs long) with a new born baby? How old should the baby be?

The flight is from Taiwan to South Africa. We have one stopover in Hong Kong.
I try to find it on Cathay Pacific’s website, but I can’t find it. Do you know any websites where they have the infant policy on that? Thanks.

Yaz answers:

Well airlines won’t accept a baby younger than 7 days old and since your child needs a passport too it definitely takes more than that to get one. I had an 16 hour trip with my daughter who was 6 months old at the time and it was great. Tiring for me but Ok for her. Of course i had decided to take the red eye to South Africa so that people would sleep and not disturb and it was all good. I did Paris England, stopped for 4 hours before doing England Johannesburg. Remember the smaller the baby the better the trip cause they don’t need to be entertained much. They only eat and sleep. Good luck.

Sandra asks…

Did Collins software integration effort resemble Aeroflot Flight 593 ?

Aeroflot Flight 593, a “Russian Airlines”[1] Airbus A310-304 passenger airliner, registration F-OGQS, operating on behalf of Aeroflot, crashed into a hillside in Siberia on 23 March 1994. All 75 passengers and crew were killed.

Voice and flight data recorders revealed that the pilot’s 15-year-old son Eldar Kudrinsky, while seated at the controls, had unknowingly disabled the A310’s autopilot’s control of the ailerons, which put the aircraft into a steep bank, and then an uncontrolled dive. The pilots were not aware of the partial disconnection of the autopilot, which occurred with no audible alarm, and did not regain control of the aircraft.

The jet was en route from Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) to Hong Kong‘s former Hong Kong International Airport (Kai Tak Airport). Most of the passengers were businessmen from Hong Kong and Taiwan who were looking for economic opportunities in Russia.

The relief pilot, Yaroslav Kudrinsky (Ярослав Кудринский), was taking his two children on their first international flight and they were brought to the cockpit while he was on duty. Aeroflot allowed families of pilots to travel at a discounted rate once per year. With the autopilot active, Kudrinsky, against regulations, offered to let them sit at the controls. First his daughter Yana took the pilot’s left front seat. Kudrinsky adjusted the autopilot’s heading to give her the impression that she was turning the plane, though she actually had no control of the aircraft. Next, his son Eldar Kudrinsky (Эльдар Кудринский) took the pilot’s seat. Unlike his sister, Eldar applied enough force to the control column to contradict the autopilot for 30 seconds.

What nobody knew was that by doing this, he completely disconnected the aileron’s autopilot: the flight computer switched the plane’s ailerons to manual control while maintaining control over the other flight systems. The plane did not audibly signal a warning that this had occurred, although an indicator light did come on. It apparently went unnoticed by the pilots, who had previously flown planes with an audible warning signal. The first to notice a problem was Eldar, who observed that the plane was banking right. Shortly after, the flight path indicator changed to show the new flight path of the aircraft as it turned. Since the turn was continuous, the resulting predicted flight path drawn on screen was a 180 degree turn. This indication is similar to the indications shown when in a holding pattern, where a 180 degree turn is intentional to remain in one place. This confused the pilots for nine seconds.

Soon the plane banked past a 45-degree angle (steeper than it was designed for). This increased the g-force on the pilots and crew, making their bodies feel much heavier than usual, and making it impossible for the Captain to replace his son at the controls. After banking as much as 90 degrees, the remaining functions of the autopilot tried to correct the plane’s altitude by putting the plane in an almost vertical ascent, nearly stalling the plane. The co-pilot and Eldar managed to get the plane into a nosedive, which reduced the G-force on the pilots and enabled the Captain to take the controls. Though he and his co-pilot did regain control, their altitude by then was too low to recover, and the plane crashed at high speed, killing all aboard.
Families of western victims placed flowers on the crash site, while families of ethnic Chinese victims scattered pieces of paper with messages written on them around the crash site.

Yaz answers:

You could make a similar argument about it, I remember seeing that on aircrash investigations on television although I don’t believe children were involved in the collins project debarcle :)

CUBE entertainment audition?

Hello. I’m chinese and is 14 this year. I can speak English , Chinese and Korean. I am going to audition by email audition because my parents don’t allow me to audition. I want to ask if

1. If you pass the first round of audition, you’ll need to fly to Korea and audition right? But do they pay for flight? And If you reach there, are there any staff from CUBE fetching you?

2. from this article,

http://www.allkpop.com/2011/04/part-%E2%91%A1-tour-cube-what-does-it-take-to-become-a-cube-entertainment-star

they said that “We currently have a total of 23 trainees. Three are from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. In order to keep up with their school studies, foreign trainees will use their break to come to Korea and train”.

Can I not use my break to go to Korea and train? Because because it will lower my chance to debut. And can’t they go to KENT International School?

3. Please give me some information about CUBE audition and their trainee life. Thank you for answering. :)

Yaz answers:

Hi! I wish you luck on your audition(: I want to audition for CUBE, YG, or SM(:

1) Yes, yes, and i am not too sure on the last question. I think its a yes because you’ve never been to Korea and they don’t want you to get lost.
2) Yes you will use your break to go to Korea. KENT is for people who want to study the things KENT has to offer, and KENT is part of SM, and SM is not part or related to CUBE so no they can’t go to KENT.
3) Well the allkpop articles have a lot of things about CUBE and their trainee lives. And thats where i got most of my CUBE information.
The teachers will teach you Korean.
Sundays is your day off.

Hope it helps(:

Your Questions About Cheap Holidays To Hong Kong

Ruth asks…

What are the current selling prices for Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in Hong Kong? Where to buy?

Am going Hong Kong for a holiday, and have heard that it’s cheaper to buy the consoles there. Anyone has any idea what the current retail prices are and where will you recommend to buy?

Yaz answers:

Just stroll around Nathan Road in TST; all those neon-lit electronic shops are bound to carry video game systems. Alternatively, hop into Shenzhen across the border; there’s a big shopping mall right next to the train station full of stuff to buy; bound to be even cheaper than in HK.

What to buy from Hong Kong?

I m planning to build a hardcore gaming PC. Suddenly had a plan to go to Hong Kong for some holidays. Can someone suggest me if I can find anything cheap there like graphic card, mother board, etc?? I can pick them from there…

Travelling to Hong Kong 1-4 jan?

Hi there, I will be travelling to hong kong from 1st to 4th jan. Will the shops and sights that require ticket admission be open on 1st jan? What would the temperature be like? Can someone suggest an itinerary? What are the shopping deals and factory outlets? Thanks!
Is it cheaper to get fujifilm instax films there? How much does one pack cost?

Yaz answers:

Welcome to Hong Kong, the Pearl of the Orient! Its stunning Victoria Harbour and The Peak have just been rated as Asia’s No.1 skyline by a Japanese TV Station. You could go to the Peak in the morning then depart to Ocean Park, also in Hongkong side. The 2nd-4th day could go shopping, flea markets, the New Territories, Disney, Cable car and Buddha.

HK has rich culture and history that give a perfect blend of the west and the east. Walk up the world’s longest Escalator which begins from Central District and goes all the way up to the Mid-Levels. Along the Escalator you’ll come across the early English settlement near Aberdeen Street, you’ll also pass by Soho, South of Hollywood Rd, which is a very unique bar and restaurant street. Hollywood Rd is the famous antique street where genuine Chinese antiques and many old stuffs are sold.

From Causeway Bay – Central District – Tsimshatsui District – Mongkok District along the MTR (subway) route are where most of the fascinating shoppings, restaurants, vibrant night life and gorgeous harbour view lies.

If you like green, sea and nature, and are not in a rush in going to places visiting one of the outlying islands ie the Silvermine Bay of Lantau Island is quite relax and gives a completely different impression of Hong Kong than the one often see in pictures. Simply catch a ferry from the Central Pier right outside IFC Building. The ferry trip takes about 30 minutes, a very relaxed ride in the midst of a hustling bustling city.

Another beautiful scenic area is Sai Kung District, there’re beautiful mountains, sea and a Seafood Street where you can handpick life seafood, have the restaurant cook them any way you like and enjoy it in front of the clear blue sea. There’re many beautiful mountain trails in Hong Kong, a popular one that goes all the way down to Aberdeen from the Peak. It’ll take more than an hour to walk down. In Aberdeen, (you could also take a bus in Central, Causeway Bay or Wanchai Districts to get there), lies the Chinese boat restaurant “JUMBO” in the middle sea which is awesome.

HK is renowned as the world’s shopping and dining paradise. You can eat like a billionaires, in the same token there’re many affordable places with unbelievable prices. HK has the cheapest McDonald’s prices on earth. A Cantonese wonton noodle soup is only around US$2. A popular Chinese fast food chain all over the city, the De Coral Fast Food with combo meals under US$5.

Buying brand names and electronics are popular as the City boasts the only zero sales tax nor import tariffs in Asia, imported goods are at 20% – 100% cheaper than anywhere else in the world. Street vendors or flea markets is another interesting shopping paradise, they have all sorts of products selling at knockoff prices, eg the Ladies Street, the evening Temple Street vendors in Kowloon side, Stanley Market in HK side etc. There’re also many street vendors located in inner side streets of Central District, Wan Chai District, near Johnston Road and Causeway Bay District that sell genuine factory exports left-overs at around US$5 for a branded T-shirt. Most prices are fixed, you may be able to bargain a few $ though in small shops and street vendors.
Everywhere in the City is well connected by its efficient and timely public transportation system, the MTR, big and mini buses. Cost is from under US$1 – $2 per ride. It’s easiest to travel by MTR which runs pass all the central shopping and business districts, then either connect to a bus or walk to your destination. Separate fares are charged for each ride. Star Ferry that crosses the Victoria Harbour, and the Island Tram that runs from the East, Shaukeiwan District to the West, Kennedy Town of the HK Island are only US$0.3 per ride which is a must for tourists. If you like exploring on your own, simply follow the map, people on the streets always happy to offer directions. HK is one of the most foreigner-friendly cities on earth, plus lots of fun and excitement, visitors often find the place the most vibrant, exciting city that never sleeps, even when you get bored at 3 AM, you could go and have a drink in the bar or even have a delicious late snack. Convenience Stores are located in almost every corner of the main streets and are opened around the clock. The best of all, HK is extremely easy to get around being supported by affordable and efficient public transportation. HK people are very responsive and efficient in work attitudes that make shopping, dining or doing business a very wonderful experience. You’ll also notice that the people will automatically stand by the side when walking up and down the stairs and escalators, not blocking those behind, which many Asian places are now following suit. Please log onto www.discoverhongkong.com to find out more and have a wonderful stay!

Yaz answers:

Roppongi, Shinjuku and Shibuya has some great restaurants and bars. If you like clubbing, try Womb at Shibuya. I normally book Northwest to Tokyo on Zuji.com, they’ve got some pretty good deals. If you want you may wanna try booking the flight and hotel separately as from experience it is cheaper and more flexible. Gd hotel deals can b found at asiarooms.com !
An area cool for 30 plus really depends on what you seek. If you’re artistic try Aoyama-Itchome or Ebisu, or Shinjuku to soak in the intensity of “Pachinko” and the weekend entertainment in Tokyo. Odaiba or Tokyo Bay via the Yurikamome Line has great stuff, from going across the Rainbow bridge, to Tokyo Big Sight to the Statue of Liberty there.

Mandy asks…

what’s the best deal? converting US$ to Hong Kong $ or taking HK$ straight from an ATM in Hong Kong?

We’re going to Hong Kong for Christmas. Should I carry lots of US cash w/ me and exchange it for HK$ over there…OR carry a little cash and withdraw HK$ directly from an ATM. Please don’t give me the safety answer, i.e. don’t travel with a lot of cash. I merely want to know which would be my best deal.

Yaz answers:

The best rate would be withdrawing it from an ATM. Just don’t get too much or you will lose in the exchange back. Try to charge most of your expenses rather than paying cash.

Can anyone find better deals than this?

Depart on 31/03/2009
Return on 13/04/2009
(dates do not have to be exact, but I have found them the cheapest)

You have answered your own question. That was approx the same price I flew from ABZ to HKG via AMS in Feb this year

Your Questions About Cheap Flights To Taiwan

Sharon asks…

Where can get more information of Taiwan travel?

Hi,

I would like to travel Taiwan sometime, but wonder if it possible to cut hotel and flight budget.
Can anyone give me information abuot cheap hotel, flight and where is good place to go?
If anyone can give some websites for forums to get more information will be perfect.

Yaz answers:

You can try at http://www.forumosa.com which is probably the largest english forum discussing Taiwan living and issues as well as some travel stuff.

You can try http://www.eztravel.com and see if you can purchase any tickets etc.

If you want some good information about places to go and things to do: check out http://www.taiwanfun.com and look around at each location.

You can try your luck at lonelyplanet.com but I think you will get better info here or at forumosa.com.

Some suggestions to start out your search:

Taipei 101, (Taipei)

National Palace Museum, (Taipei)

Taipei zoo, (Taipei)

Yangmingshan National Park, (Taipei) *good view of some steam vents from the volcano, and many walking trails with pretty flowers all year.

Jhi-Bei Mountain Village (between Taipei and Ilan)
*an interesting mountainside village that has a great view of the ocean. Small windy walking streets. Parking is hell for cars, bus this one if possible. Lots of mini lanes and teahouses and it was a former gold mining town. You can see the tailings and nastiness still in the water down the road where the mine shafts were. The town is nice but is pretty steeply built. That it has survived so many earthquakes, typhoons is actually quite a feat in itself!

Bei-Tou Hot Springs, (Taipei)

Shr-Lin Night Market (Taipei) *try the street food. Yum!

Taroko Gorge (Hualien) *rent a scooter if you are brave and travelling with 2p or alone. Take a small 10 person or less bus if you arent. Or share the cost of renting a car with some other travellers for BEST experience. The BIG 30p+ buses are a problem on the tiny roads here in my opinion, and the roads are very sketchy in parts. But it is amazing.

Sun Moon Lake (Nantou) *on a weekday. Don’t go on weekends unless you can handle crowds.
Kenting National Park and Beach areas. *also better on weekdays. Weekends are ugly crowds.

Personally I think you will find Taipei (for modern development and an overall view of what western Taiwan looks like..) and Hualien (for natural beauty in the inner canyon and mountain ranges of the Pacific Rim) to be the best parts of your tour in Taiwan.

The Central MRT station is arguably a good tourist landmark as well.

Sandy asks…

What’s the cheapest roundtrip flight to Hong Kong or Taiwan from Manila?

My wife is pregnant and I’ll have to leave and re-enter the country to comply with my Visiting Visa as it expires on the last week of July. Does anyone here know of the cheapest round trip tickets? I’ll even consider Tokyo if it’s cheaper or if anyone can spare miles to get me there on NW Airlines. I really don’t care which airline takes me. I just need it to be inexpensive because I have to pay a childbirth… Thanks for the answers and/or suggestions… God Bless!
Irish, I’ll not be traveling with my wife. She’ll stay in the Philippines. Thanks for your honest answer. I’ll checking the Japan airlines.. Any one else?

Yaz answers:

If you are in a tight budget why not ask a travel agency nearby? Its much more cheaper to buy from them than directly the airline company. Agencies got like accounts in airlines that they can purchase by the bulk. And they can even customize your trips.

I got my roundtrip mnl to l.a to orlando at USD1400 northwest airlines. Unlike having a USD 1200 roundtrip mnl to l.a only. I got it from rajah travel n tours 02-523-8801 to 10.

Agencies can work around your budget. They can find u the best offer at a reasonable price.

Anyways pre-booking is always free of charge in case you booked up and change ur mind.

Susan asks…

What’s the cheapest route from UK to Taiwan?

I’m starting a teaching position in Taipei in the next few months. I was wondering what the best route is to get to Taipei.

My Rough Guide says its hard to find direct flights to Taiwan from the UK. A quick internet search found flights in the range of £500.

But I was thinking it might be better to get a cheap ticket to a more popular Asian destination (Beijng, Hong Kong, Bangkok?) and then a further flight onto Taipei

Anyone know the cheapest way of doing this?

Yaz answers:

EVA AIR do direct flights from Heathrow but they only have a couple a week, and they leave in the evening 21;35.The closer you get to your date the higher the price.I payed £624 for a return i fly out on wednesday, (EVA AIR is the Taiwanese national airway and is up there with the likes of virgin,BA etc 4 star airline! You get what you pay for)

Lizzie asks…

What is the cheapest way to get to Taiwan from Los Angeles?

I wanted to know the cheapest way to get from LA to Taiwan. I have heard that it may be cheaper to fly to Singapore or Hong Kong then take a flight into Taiwan but this does not seem to be the case when I check fares.
Well, I wanted to be able to go when I get out of school (end of June) but it seems that tickts are nearly DOUBLE the price at the start of summer. Is June/July a very expensive time to fly? Should I wait until the end of July/Aug to go??

Yaz answers:

Just fly directly from LAX to Taiwan – it’s the best way. Flights to Hong Kong or Singapore aren’t cheaper when you add in the cost in time & money for the connecting flight.

Jenny asks…

whats the cheapest price for a flight from America to Taiwan?

Yaz answers:

The Taiwanese airlines are cheaper than the American ones, i can tell you that.

Run a Google search on China Airlines (actually of Taiwan) and Eva Air.

Ah, here:
http://www.china-airlines.com
http://www.evaair.com
They’re not only cheaper than the American airlines but their customer service is also better (more polite!). Sometimes it’s hard to understand them though and it’s annoying because they speak *neither* English nor Mandarin Chinese well.

Your Questions About Flights To Taiwan From Us

Mary asks…

I will have a transfer stop in the US coming from Taiwan to Mexico City, I do not have a visa for the US?

Can someone that lives in the US go visit me to the airport while I wait for my next flight?

Yaz answers:

The USA suspended the Transit Without A Visa program after 9/11. Now, if you need a visa to visit the USA you need a visa to transit the USA.

Mandy asks…

How long can someone visiting the US from Taiwan expect to be able to stay?

My Girlfriend is coming to visit and we have made plans for her to stay with me for 6 months then she will return to Taiwan. She has her Visa and plane tickets with the return flight for just under 6 months after her arrival. She will have a receipt showing she has paid for vehicle use and lodging for the 6 months. Will immigration give her a problem with staying for the 6 months?
I was more concerned with whether or not immigration will have any problem with her visiting me for the 6 months if they know she is my girlfriend.

Yaz answers:

It depends on the immigration agent . One to six months is the norm, they take a number of things into account, honesty is number one priority, if they have any glimmer that some answer is untrue, your chances for six months is reduced.

Sandra asks…

An airplane flight from Manila, Philippines to T’aipei, Taiwan, and then on to Shanghai will take us in which

Yaz answers:

You are traveling north by north east to Taiwan and then south, by southwest to Shanghai.

William asks…

Can I bring a baby turtle on a plane from Taiwan to the US?

OK, I know there are a lot of other similar questions about this, I feel like I need to get better answers myself.
I got a baby yellow bellied slider turtle for my birthday here in Taiwan. I will be leaving Taiwan to go back home in California in January (about three months). I am probably going to take Malasian Airlines or China Airlines or Eva Airlines because they are the cheapest. I am wondering how to either legally or illegally bring it onto the plane or sneak it on.
If I am to sneak it on I was thinking I would hide him in my pants during the security check. Have a tupperware container in my carry on and a bottle of water and food for the turtle. Then once on the plane I will remove the turtle from my pants and put him in the tupperware container for the duration of the flight with the water and food. I doubt any passengers would care and I can be sneaky about it. My turtle is only about 1 inch long so he can be sneaky too. (he told me.)
Then when I land, hide him in my pants again till I am free of any danger.
A few concerns that I have:
I know it is stupid to do anything wrong but lets get past that and get some answers here.
-When I walk through the metal detector, it won’t harm him in any way will it?
-When they pat me down he will be safe in my private region from being found, correct? And they only pat you down if the metal detector goes off right?
-Will riding on the plane be harmful to him? The flight is like 13 hours.

Thank you in advance for any and all of your help. Sheldon, (that’s his name; I know cliche) is very appreciative of all of the help too!
I just checked Malaysia Airlines FAQ and pets are not permitted in the cabin, only as checked baggage. No mention about specific pets, but I am not checking my 1 inch turtle. He needs water, food, and love. None of which I can give him if he is checked. I think my only option is to smuggle the little guy on me. I’ll call the airline just to make sure, but it looks like my only option. Thanks for the help, though I wouldn’t be opposed to more answers. :)
I’m sorry that you think it is crazy. It’s not that easy to just give away your pet. You kind of grow attached to them. If you don’t then you probably shouldn’t own a pet. About drawing attention from a passenger; if somebody complained about it then they should be shot. I’m serious, that is rediculous. It’s not like it will be walking around the plane. It’s 1 inch long… I would have him in my custody the whole time. I feel more offended when dirty old men take their shoes off and everyone has to smell/see those nasty things. Bottom line is, if someone complains then they have some serious issues that they need to work out. It’s a freaking baby turtle, not a bomb!
I love how you assume I’m 12 years old. I am pretty sure I don’t speak like one. I’m 23 and I know what rules are for. And comparing a turtle to a poisonous snake is a little ludacris. But thank you for the analogy. Let me make this clear; I don’t care if it is right or wrong. I am bringing him back to California with me, I am just asking for some advice on how to do that. Maybe by someone who has done what I am trying to do. I do apprecciate you taking time out of your oh so precious day to assume that I am a child. You know what happens when you assume right? You make an ass out of you and me. That’s right.

Yaz answers:

This is a crazy idea, there is no sensible solution to your dilemma, other than to give Sheldon to someone in Taiwan, who will give him a loving home.

Trying to sneak him on in your pants sounds mad, and trying to feed/water in flight will draw way to much attention, and I’ll be honest, it will probably attract the attention of at least one passenger, who will be offended/incensed about what you are attempting to do.

Jenny asks…

How long does registered mail from Taiwan take to reach the US?

I had a package shipped out from Taiwan on the 6th of June and it came with a tracking number but my status when I check with USPS is: Foreign Acceptance. On the website Track and Trace, it was a little more detailed including a flight number and the date/time the plane left. But there have been no updates stating that it arrived in the states and the plane traveled to Alaska. Should I contact the seller and express concern since I know the USPS will just give me the story that the status in the only info they have? And generally, what is the transit time for registered mail?

Yaz answers:

Not to worry. It’s probably going through Customs. It may take about 4-5 weeks, that is… If you addressed it correctly. In 4+ years of shipping items to/from Taiwan, I’ve never lost a box going either way between the USA and Taiwan.
